POCATELLO — NeighborWorks Pocatello has partnered with Idaho Housing and Finance Association to offer the "Finally Home!" Homebuyer Education course. The course is available to all Southeast Idaho residents regardless of where they are at in the home buying process. The next class is slated for two consecutive evenings (April 22 and 23) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the NeighborWorks Pocatello offices located at 206 N. Arthur.
The course provides a comprehensive overview of what to expect in preparation for buying and owning a home. Topics include the ins and outs of mortgage financing, household budgeting, responsible use of credit, working with a real estate agent, insurance, the home inspection process and more.
Completing a homebuyer education class prior to purchasing a home can help the buyer demystify what is often a complex and intimidating process. The course is also a requirement for all purchases of NeighborWorks Pocatello constructed homes (including those at Bonneville Commons).
Attendees benefit in other ways, such as being significantly less likely to default on their mortgage loan at a later point. "Participants in our course are able manage the process with the confidence that comes from having access to useful information, as well as an advocate to help answer their questions and accomplish their goals," said Sean Hargraves, housing counselor for NeighborWorks Pocatello. "Completing a class in homebuyer education can give the new owner the knowledge they need to be successful in managing the various responsibilities of homeownership."
Cost of the course is $10, and participants get to keep the course guide. A light meal will be served each evening. Upon completion, participants are eligible for a graduation certificate, which is often required to qualify for certain mortgage loan programs.
For more information or to sign up for the course, visit the NeighborWorks Pocatello office at 206 N. Arthur Ave weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or call Clarissa Jackman at 208-232-9468, ext. 113.
