POCATELLO — NAIFA Southeastern (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors) is the local branch of NAIFA National, the national organization in place to protect the interests of insurance agents and financial advisers across the nation. Part of their work in Washington, D.C., is to monitor legislation that would be detrimental to those in our industry. The NAIFA Southeastern is proud to have been funding a scholarship at ISU for many years through fundraisers and personal donations. It has reached the amount where scholarships can now be given out.

Liem Lucas, from Blackfoot, is the recipient of our first $250 scholarship. He is a junior in the College of Business at ISU as an economics major. He is planning on attending graduate school to pursue a Ph.D.

We held a financial education event last fall, FINCON, at the Mountain View Event Center in Pocatello and two scholarships were awarded from the proceeds. Preston Yost, one of the recipients, is currently attending Brigham Young University-Idaho where he is studying engineering. His interests include hiking, white water rafting, snowboarding, water skiing and spending time with friends. He has a great love for math.

The second recipient, Ime Parra, is currently a senior at Century High School with dual enrollment at ISU. Her desire is to specialize in neuroscience. She also works at Texas Roadhouse.

NAIFA’s experienced staff and volunteers engage decision makers at every level of the legislative and regulatory system.

NAIFA provides a wide variety of education to advisers through meetings, conventions, on-line seminars and on-line and local classes.

The local group is always looking for new members to join our association in promoting and protecting the industry as well as enjoying the camaraderie that comes with meeting together.
