POCATELLO — The Idaho State University School of Performing Arts is delighted to announce its 2024-2025 season, featuring an exciting lineup of theatrical productions and musical events. From classic plays to exhilarating musical performances, the upcoming season promises to captivate audiences of all ages and tastes.

The season kicks off with a classic satirical comedy play, “Imaginary Invalid,” written by Molière and adapted by Oded Gross and Tracy Young. Directed by Jef Petersen, this timeless play offers a hilarious and thought-provoking exploration of human nature and folly. Show dates are scheduled for Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 10-12 at the Black Box Theatre.

In a celebration of musical talent and precision, the school will host the “Marching Band Invitational,” featuring energetic performances by marching bands from various high schools across the state. Under the direction of Tom Kloss, the event is set to take place on Oct. 19 at the ICCU Dome, with tickets available for purchase at the ICCU Dome.

The season will continue with the “Choral Festival,” a vibrant tribute to the beauty of choral music, featuring harmonious performances by high schools from across the state and Idaho State University choirs. The festival, under the direction of new ISU music faculty, Jeffery Francom, is scheduled for Ocg. 19 at Jensen Grand Concert Hall.

Following the festival, audiences will be enchanted by the beloved classic novella “The Little Prince,” adapted for the stage and directed by Vanessa Ballam. Filled with whimsy, wonder, and profound insights about love and friendship, the heartwarming tale will come to life on Nov. 15-16 and Nov. 21-23 at the Bistline Theatre.

The season will also feature the witty and poignant comedy-drama, “The Clean House,” written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Jef Petersen. Audiences can look forward to a rich exploration of love, loss and the beauty of imperfection from Feb. 7-8 and Feb. 13-15 at the Black Box.

Music enthusiasts are in for a treat with the “Jazz Fest,” a celebration of soulful jazz melodies, groovy rhythms, improvisation and guest artists, organized and directed by Jon Armstrong. Taking place on Feb. 8 at Jensen Hall, the festival will feature more than a dozen high school jazz bands.

Showcasing symphonic brilliance, the school will present the “Southeast Idaho Honor Band,” directed by Patrick Young, featuring talented musicians from the region. The event, culminating with a performance by the ISU Wind Ensemble and honor band students, will take place on March 20 at Jensen Hall.

To conclude the season, the school will present the thrilling and adventurous stage adaptation of “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.” Based on the beloved young adult novel by Rick Riordan, the musical celebrates friendship, bravery, and the power of self-discovery, and is scheduled for April 11-12 and April 17-19 at the Bistline Theatre.

This diverse and vibrant lineup promises to offer an unforgettable experience for theatergoers and music lovers alike.
