Many people only hear about the coroner’s office, often called the last responders, during difficult moments — not an optimal time to understand our role in the community.
The Bingham County Coroner’s Office investigates sudden, unexpected, unattended, violent and suspicious deaths that occur in Bingham County. We respond around the clock, and our staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We do not investigate deaths under the care of a doctor. Our responsibility is to conduct an independent medicolegal death investigation and determine: 1) the identity of the decedent, 2) time of death, 3) the cause of death (the injury or disease that resulted in death) and 4) the manner of death (natural, accident, suicide, homicide, or undetermined).
We are an integral part of the public health system and provide critical information that is utilized by 44 different agencies across the state concerning public safety. Our investigations also support public trust by ensuring deaths are investigated objectively and professionally.
Most importantly, our efforts support families by helping to provide answers and clarity at a difficult time.
Thank you for allowing us to serve this community with professionalism, dignity and compassion.
