REXBURG — American singers Scotty McCreery, David Archuleta and Nathan Pacheco are featured along with performing artists from Inner Mongolia, Russia, Canada and Brazil in the fall lineup of performing arts events at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg.

Diego Figueiredo

n Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Kirkham Auditorium

Brazilian Diego Figueiredo is the new star of the guitar world. He is the winner of several important competitions, including the Montreux Jazz Competition and Brazil’s famous VISA Prize. At age 36, Diego has released more than 21 albums, three DVDs and several instructional books. Diego is now presenting his new concert From Classical to Jazz. It’s a fusion of classical, jazz and bossa nova.

Comedy Improv Night

If you’ve seen Whose Line Is It Anyway? you have an idea of what kind of hilarious, energetic comedy the improv team will perform.

Scotty McCreery burst onto the national music scene in 2011 at age 17, quickly establishing himself as one of country music’s hottest new stars. By age 21, the “American Idol” winner had sold nearly 2.5 million albums and received both Platinum and Gold album certifications. His deep voice and irresistible sound create the perfect blend of contemporary and traditional country.

Russian String Orchestra

Founded in 1991, the Russian String Orchestra from Moscow is composed of some of Russia’s finest young string players. The ensemble has carved a niche for itself under the creative baton of its founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky.

Anda Union

Hailing from differing ethnic nomadic cultures, Anda Union is a nine-member band that unites tribal and music traditions from all over Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of northern China. Members of Anda Union are part of a musical movement that is finding inspiration in old and forgotten songs.

Alcan String Quartet

n Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Barrus Concert Hall

The Alcan String Quartet has developed a reputation for excellence throughout Canada and internationally since its formation over twenty years ago. The Alcan Quartet possesses the qualities that characterize the best ensembles of its kind: a recognizable personality, a homogeneous sound, and elegant style.

Anton Nel

n Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Barrus Concert Hall

Anton Nel, winner of the 1987 Naumburg International Piano Competition, continues to tour internationally as recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. He is currently the head of the division of keyboard studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

A BYU-Idaho Christmas with David Archuleta and Nathan Pacheco

David Archuleta and Nathan Pacheco will be the featured guests at the university’s sixth annual Christmas program in the BYU-Idaho Center. They will join the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra, combined choirs and other students from the College of Performing and Visual Arts.
