Law enforcement and rescue personnel responded to a plane crash Monday morning at Palisades Reservoir near the Alpine Airport.
The pilot was the only person on board, according to the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office. A boater on the lake rescued the pilot, who was transported to the Star Valley Emergency Center. The pilot sustained no injuries.
The pilot was attempting to land at the airport, undershot the runway, and could not maintain enough air speed before hitting the water, said Sgt. Bryan Lovell, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Deputies are working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board on the investigation. Removal of the plane will take place in the next day or so. Deputies ask boaters to stay clear of the plane and immediate area around it until it can be safely removed.
