Century blanked Highland 4-0 on Wednesday to notch its first win of the season.

Cole Roske scored twice, while Brayden Stouse had two assists.

Despite the win, Century coach Rocky Rhoads sees much his team can improve upon.

“We played a little bit impatient,” Rhoads said. “I don’t think we defended very well, and we weren’t that good in possession.”

Century (1-0-1) plays Saturday at Burley. Highland (0-2) hosts Wood River on Saturday.

BLACKFOOT 6, RIGBY 3

Blackfoot’s offensive success led to a 6-3 win Wednesday at Rigby.

The Broncos were ahead 2-1, 11 minutes into the game, and led 4-1 at halftime.

“We got into a rhythm,” Blackfoot coach Liam Pope said. “There’s a lot more passing going on. It’s a different team, a different style.”

Coque Velasquez, Junior Labra and Frankie Garcia scored two goals apiece or the Broncos.

Blackfoot (2-0) hosts Idaho Falls on Monday.

American Falls at Pocatello

Pocatello’s home game against American Falls was canceled Wednesday because of a shortage of soccer officials.

A new date for the game has not been set.

Pocatello (0-0) plays Thursday at Burley.

CENTURY 2, HIGHLAND 1

Ellie Suermelis’ pair of goals helped Century down Highland 2-1 on Wednesday at Highland. The Diamondbacks held a 2-0 lead until the Rams ended the shutout in the final minutes.

“Overall, a very physical game,” Century coach Jamshid Roomiany said. “Not a pretty game, but we won it.”

Century (2-0) hosts Burley on Saturday. Highland (1-1) plays Saturday at Wood River.

BLACKFOOT 6, RIGBY 5

Blackfoot used a late goal to edge Rigby 6-5 on Wednesday. Elexus Nochebuena scored to knot the score at 5-5, and Sierra Sanchez scored the game-winner.

Blackfoot (1-2) plays Monday at Idaho Falls.

MADISON 6, PRESTON 1

Preston fell behind 4-0 at halftime and lost 6-1 Wednesday against Madison at home.

Indians coach Brandon Lyon said his young team struggled to string possessions together.

“Intensity and focus have been struggles,” Lyon said. “But the second half, we made some adjustments and we started to show some flashes of what we’re capable of.”

Quincy Hyde scored the lone goal for Preston (0-3), which hosts Twin Falls on Saturday.

BONNEVILLE 2, CENTURY 0

CENTURY 2, HILLCREST 1

Century was swept by Bonneville before outlasting Hillcrest in three sets Wednesday in a tri-match at home. The Diamondbacks were edged by a total of seven points in their loss to the defending 5A state champions and nipped Hillcrest by two in the final set.

D-backs interim coach Breanne Robinson said once her young setters gel with the team’s big hitters, her squad will show vast improvements.

“I am really excited about the potential that we can reach,” Robinson said. “I think once we get that relationship worked out, some exciting things are going to happen.”

Century (1-1) plays Minico and Burley Tuesday at Minico.

HILLCREST 2, POCATELLO 0

BONNEVILLE 2, POCATELLO 0

Pocatello went winless in its season-opening tri-match against Bonneville and Hillcrest on Wednesday. The Knights beat Poky 25-11, 25-15, while Bonneville topped the Indians 25-11 in both games.

“We definitely learned a lot,” Indians coach Jasmine Corsetti said. “We were scrappy. … They played hard, but fell short.”

Zoey Wright led the defense with 19 digs, and Maddie Wright chipped in five blocks.

Pocatello (0-2) hosts Canyon Ridge and Twin Falls on Thursday.

SHELLEY 3, AMERICAN FALLS 0

American Falls was swept by Shelley on Wednesday at home, losing 8-25, 5-25, 8-25.

Beavers coach Jami Adair said her team faces a steep learning curve because of its youth.

“They’re kind of being forced into playing on the varsity level,” Adair said. “We saw some really good things. It just wasn’t consistent.”

American Falls (0-1) hosts Blackfoot on Saturday.
