CHUBBUCK — Highland put on a show Wednesday at Capell Park.

In a doubleheader against Sky View (Utah), the Rams hit on all cylinders, crushing the Bobcats for two mercy-rule wins. Highland won game one 15-0 in three innings before taking the nightcap 19-2 in three frames.

Highland (6-1-1) combined for 32 hits and 29 RBIs in the two-game series while surrendering three combined hits.

In game one, Highland scored 11 runs in the bottom of the third to end the game early. The Rams tallied 14 hits in the win, led by three apiece from Jordan Frasure and Roni Bosquez.

Ten different Rams had at least one hit and eight Rams had one RBI or more in the opener. Frasure’s two-RBI double put the Rams up 15-0, sealing the win.

“We had quality at-bats,” Highland coach Tisha Coverdell said. “For the most parts, that is what we talked about after the game. They recognized that they put together good at-bats.”

Highland’s Makayla Mauger allowed no hits, struck out four and walked two batters in three innings.

The pitcher tallied 47 pitches, and no Bobcats reached past second base.

Mauger’s strong outing was followed by Madi VanSickle, who allowed three hits, no earned runs and struck out nine batters in three innings in game two.

Wednesday was VanSickle’s first start and second appearance of the season. Every out registered by VanSickle was a strikeout, and she threw a first-pitch strike to 10 of 14 batters.

“Both of our pitchers were really confident on the mound,” Coverdell said. “Madi was confident on the mound. It was new for her, pitching a whole game like that. Makaya was in charge. The catchers were communicating. I’m excited about our pitchers.”

Highland’s offense was even more potent in game two, tallying 18 hits and a season-high 19 runs. The Rams scored 10 runs in the first and nine runs in the second, led by six RBIs from Makayia Anderson.

Anderson had a pair of home runs and a triple in three at-bats. Teammate Shylee Mann added a home run for the Rams, who have 11 homers this season. Highland had 11 home runs last season.

“We have the power and quick girls if we need to use the short game,” Coverdell said. “Offensively, we have everything we need to produce runs.”
