ATLANTA, Idaho — A family of four from Star was traveling through the mountains of Boise County on Saturday when their vehicle went off Arrowrock Road and into the Boise River, killing a father and his child while the mother and another child survived.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. near milepost 19 on Arrowrock Road north of Atlanta. Idaho State Police said the driver, a 35-year-old woman, swerved to avoid another vehicle, bringing her GMC truck too close to the road's edge. The truck rolled into the river.
The woman and one of the children were able to get out of the vehicle and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The passenger, a 38-year-old man, and a second child did not survive. Both died at the scene, state police said.
All four family members were wearing seat belts, state police said.
Atlanta is a small, remote community in the mountains of Boise County, roughly 65 miles east of Boise.
Idaho State Police were assisted by the Boise County Sheriff's Office. The crash remains under investigation.
