KUNA — Two teenagers were arrested early Sunday after gunshots were allegedly fired near several law enforcement officials.

According to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded at 2:36 a.m. in Kuna, where two sheriff’s office deputies, a detective, three forensic scientists and an investigator with the Ada County Coroner’s Office were processing a scene involving an individual who died by suicide.

“The group heard gunshots, and approximately a dozen rounds began to ricochet near them, prompting them to take cover,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Shortly thereafter, deputies located a vehicle with its lights off driving north on Cole Road toward Ten Mile Creek Road, the release said, adding that the passenger discarded a firearm from the vehicle.

The driver and passenger were then arrested without incident.

“We are incredibly grateful that no one was injured during this reckless and senseless incident,” Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said. “Seven individuals were put in harm’s way — including members of our forensic science team and a member of the Ada County Coroner’s Office — who do not carry firearms as part of their duties.”

Abel Olmos, an 18-year-old Boise man, was arrested and charged with seven counts of felony aggravated assault. A 16-year-old male was also arrested on seven counts of felony aggravated assault, plus one felony charge of destruction of evidence.

“I want to recognize the swift response of on-scene deputies, who ensured their peers’ safety and quickly located and apprehended the suspects,” Clifford said.
