SODA SPRINGS — Watch out for a “hole” lot of fun coming to the Soda Springs City Library thanks to the mini golf event sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

On Monday, March 10, the library will close its checkout counters at noon to begin transforming the fiction sections into putt-putt fairways.

Iconic books such as "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "Curious George", "Lord of the Rings", "Alice in Wonderland" and more will be the theme of holes designed and built by community volunteers.

The library will reopen to the public from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 10 for reserved tee-times as part of the mini golf fundraiser, with all proceeds going to help the library.

Friends of the Library President Beth Cherriett explains her excitement for the mini golf idea as they are continually researching more interactive community involvement with library fundraisers.

“Mini golf library events were very popular and successful in the past for other libraries so we thought why not try it here,” she said.

Cherriett shares how the idea was the easy part. The start-up costs of putters, balls and scorecards seemed overwhelming.

“We were ecstatic about the generous donation by Ireland Bank," Cherriett said. "They really made the entire thing possible. We are so grateful for their commitment to the community and the library.”

The mini-golf course will be spread out throughout the library’s main floor and basement. All are welcome and no golf experience is needed to participate.

The variety of hole designs will result in various levels of difficulty but don’t worry this is all for fun and entertainment. No official scores will be kept, but teams are welcome to keep score and compete amongst themselves.

“We really just want this to be some fun entertainment for our family and friends of all ages,” said Cherriett.

Admission will be by monetary donation at the door. Attendees are strongly encouraged to sign up for a tee time in advance at sslibraryfriends.com>minigolf or by calling 208-547-2606.

“With only nine teams on the course at a given time, it’s crucial for us to space out the crowd. Much of the library’s square footage will be taken up with the game, so we want to avoid large groups of people waiting for an open slot,” Cherriett said.

The hope is to make this an annual event for the Soda Springs City Library.

The Friends of the Library are urging people to participate in what promises to be quite the book par-tee.
