POCATELLO — There were some scary moments Saturday when a brush fire ignited close to an Idaho Power substation and a neighborhood on Pocatello's west bench.

But a fast response by the Pocatello Fire Department stopped the flames before they could cause any significant damage.

The fire ignited near Rocky Point Road around 6 p.m. and immediately began burning toward nearby homes and the substation.

The blaze burned multiple power poles before firefighters were able to contain it, but there were no injuries, evacuations or damage to residences.

Pocatello police temporarily shut down Rocky Point Road because of the fire.

Authorities haven't yet commented on the fire's possible cause or how many acres burned.

The Pocatello Fire Department remained on the scene until around 8 p.m. to make sure the flames were out. Idaho Power crews also responded to repair the damaged poles.

The damage did not cause any widespread power outages in the city, authorities said.

The fire remains under investigation by the Pocatello Fire Department.
