POCATELLO — Portneuf Valley Brewing owner Penny Pink will match up to $1,000 in donations for Saturday’s benefit concert for Idaho State Journal Deputy Editor Shelbie Harris to assist him and his family as he battles a brain tumor.

The benefit concert will be held at Portneuf Valley Brewing, 615 S. First Ave., beginning at 5 p.m. and running until 10 p.m. It will feature three local bands, a silent auction, raffle and a selection of appetizers provided by organizer and Harris’ good friend Caleb Rosenkrance.

Admission is $10 for adults and free for children. Donations of money and other items will also be accepted during the event.

Pink said she will personally match total monetary donations up to $1,000.

All proceeds will go to the Harris family to address medical expenses and other financial needs as Shelbie receives treatment.

Pink lost her husband to colon cancer so she knows how tough it is for a family to deal with serious health issues.

She said, “Shelbie’s wife is a stay-at-home mom with three little kids. It’s my opportunity to give back. There were so many people that were so generous to me with their time, sending cards, sending love and hugs. We were fortunate that we had insurance, but a lot of people don’t, and it’s hugely expensive and just a tremendous strain on a family. I feel like it’s the least I can do if I have this facility and it’s family friendly, which was one of the criteria that the organizers had for this event. I’m happy to help.”

While Rosenkrance is providing a few hors d’oeuvres for the event, Pink is encouraging those in attendance to bring crock pots of chili or other food items to share with guests. Pink will also be on site in the kitchen for anyone interested in ordering dinner at the brewery that evening.

“There’s a lot of different avenues that people can contribute so come down and socialize, have a good time and enjoy some of Shelbie’s favorite bands,” Pink said. “This is an opportunity for the community to come down and enjoy some live music, support a good cause, and have a good time with their friends and family.”
