The Idaho State Police, working with other law enforcement agencies, arrested a male suspect in the Kamiah area Tuesday on unstated charges related to a female being held against her will.

According to a state police news release, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office learned early Tuesday of a female who entered a local business and informed a cashier she needed help.

An ISP trooper in the area located the person and provided her advice on how to escape what she described as a dangerous situation.

According to the news release, the person reported she was drugged and taken from Oregon to Idaho, and was being held by a man who lives in the area. Police used the information she provided, combined with further information gleaned from a quick investigation, to develop probable cause. An ISP SWAT team arrested the suspect without incident. The Idaho and Lewis county sheriff offices participated in the operation.

“This was a strong example of what can happen when agencies work together quickly and effectively,” said ISP Lieutenant Darren Gilbertson in the news release. “The safety of the victim was our top priority, and we’re proud of how all the involved personnel responded. Our investigation continues.”

The agency did not release the suspect’s name or say what he is being charged with.
