POCATELLO — The Highland Marching Band just completed another successful season with outstanding competitive performances Nov. 2 and 3 in St. George, Utah.   The band’s marching show this year was “Breakout!” and was written by John M. Meehan and Michael Huestis.  

    Drum majors for the band are Tyler Hedgepeth and Jamie Burtosky. Soloists this year included Carly Baker, dance, Rachel Hurst, rifle, Ben Kowallis, xylophone, Sarah Melancon, clarinet, Morgan Hansen, flute, Whitney Mottishaw and Corrin Adams, flags, and the drum line. Instructional assistants included Logan Wilde, drum line, David Voorheis, drum line, Chari Briggs, color guard and Rachel McCollum, color guard.

    The Highland Marching Band began preparing in early spring for this year. Camps were held in June and also in August and rehearsals were held on Thursdays all summer long. The Highland Marching Band has 93 members which is the largest marching band in Highland history.

    The first performances were held on the last day of band camp, followed by half-time performances at Highland games and then competitions. The competition results are as follows:

    Sept. 22: Bridgerland Band Invitational, Outstanding Percussion.

    Oct. 6: ISU Mountainwest Marching Competition, first place, Outstanding Music, Visual and Percussion.

    Nov. 2: Red Rocks Marching Competition, third place and Outstanding Percussion.

    Nov. 3: Bands of America St. George Regionals, second place.

    The Highland Marching Band would like to thank the Highland Band Boosters, parents, family members, Highland and School District No. 25 administrations for their love, kindness and generosity this year. This program would not be happen without the support of so many community members that donated financially or donated goods to support the band.
