CHUBBUCK — Firefighters had no sooner extinguished a fire that gutted a well-known bar here on Saturday when they were dispatched to a raging house fire.

Both the 5 Mile Inn, Bar and Cafe in the 4800 block of Yellowstone Avenue as well as the single-story house in the 200 block of Parrish Lane were destroyed in the unrelated fires, the Chubbuck Fire Department said.

There were no injuries to people during the blazes, but four pets died in the house fire.

The Chubbuck Fire Department miraculously kept both fires from spreading to adjacent homes and businesses.

Chubbuck Fire Chief Merlin Miller said on Saturday evening following both fires that he was very proud of his firefighters' response to the blazes.

Chubbuck fire officials said they believe the fires were accidental in nature but both remain under investigation.

The 5 Mile bar fire was reported by the bar's cook around 6:30 a.m. Saturday and the flames quickly spread, the Fire Department said.

There has been speculation that the blaze started as a grease fire in the bar's kitchen but Chubbuck fire officials said they are not yet ready to comment on the fire's specific cause until their investigation has been completed.

Yellowstone Avenue was temporarily shut down on Saturday morning because of the blaze.

Chubbuck firefighters remained on the scene extinguishing the 5 Mile bar fire until around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Once the firefighters returned to their fire station they were dispatched at 4:45 p.m. Saturday to the house fire on Parrish Lane.

The flames were already consuming the house when Chubbuck firefighters arrived.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire but the house was still declared a total loss.

Chubbuck fire officials said the fire appears to have started in the home's kitchen and then spread to the rest of the house.

Two cats, a dog and rabbit were inside the home when it caught fire and died in the blaze, the Fire Department reported.

The fire was reported by the couple who lived in the house. The couple, whose names haven't been released, spotted the flames as they returned home from work and dialed 911, the Fire Department said.

Parrish Lane was temporarily shut down because of the fire.
