A wildfire in Wolverine Canyon, located about 16 miles east of Blackfoot, quickly consumed 250 acres Sunday, said Sonja Shadow, spokeswoman for the Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center.

Shadow said the Cove Springs fire started at about 6 p.m. on the Fort Hall reservation.

While the fire jumped he Balckfoot River and spread quickly, she said, no structures in the area were threatened by the fire.

Four heavy trucks, a water tender and one dozer from the fire center were on the scene of the wildfire Sunday and 20-member ground crew is due to be at the site at 7 a.m. Monday.

Shadow said two investigators were deployed but the cause of the fire had not been determined, and there was no estimated time of containment for the blaze.

A incident commander from Fort Hall was also at the scene of the fire.

Higher elevation and heavy timber in Wolverine Canyon slowed efforts to suppress the blaze, she said.
