BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Animal Shelter has more dogs than it has room for and is asking the community to help find homes for them.

Amanda Cevering of the animal shelter said they currently have 38 dogs.

“Our capacity for dogs is 35,” Cevering said.

People leave their dogs at the shelter for several reasons. Some are unable to take care of them. Cevering said everyone’s story for giving up their dogs is different.

“I think people get this cute puppy that turns into a dog and they don’t know what they’ve gotten into or they don’t want to train the animal properly,” Cevering said.

There are several different types of dogs up for adoption at the shelter right now. They include Labrador retrievers, border collies, huskies and pit bulls.

“We have it all,” Cevering said.

Anyone interested in adopting a dog can either come to the shelter at 199 Frontage Road in Blackfoot or check the shelter’s Facebook page, facebook.com/blackfootanimalshelter.

It’s imperative that people come forward to adopt dogs from the shelter now because more dogs are coming in every day and the shelter does not want to be in a position where it will have to euthanize canines.

“We literally have dogs come in daily,” Cevering said.

Cevering asked that people only get pets if they are able to give them all the care that they need. Pet owners are also advised to spay and neuter their pets.
