Community shows support as RMS returns to classes

Rigby Middle School.

RIGBY — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that it retrieved a gun from a student at Rigby Middle School.

At around 9:08 a.m., staff told a school resource officer that a 13-year-old female student was in a restroom with a gun. The officer found the student, took the weapon and apprehended her. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Students were released to their parents after the incident, which comes four months after a student fired a gun in the school, injuring two students and one adult.

The case has been forwarded to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Criminal cases involving juveniles are not typically open to the public or the media.
