On July 9, 1966, R. Steve Millward and Beverlee June Peck were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. Steve was born near Fairview, Wyoming, and moved with his family to Pocatello when he was just 1 year old. Beverlee was born in Provo, Utah, but moved with her family to Rupert, Idaho, when she was 4 years old. Steve graduated from Pocatello High School in 1961. Beverlee graduated from Minico High School in 1964.

The couple met at Ricks College in 1965. After high school, Steve joined the Marine Corps Reserves and went to basic training in San Diego and infantry training at Camp Pendleton. In April 1962, Steve served a 2 1/2-year mission to Peru. Upon his return, he worked for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph for a year as a ware-houseman. Beverlee attended Ricks College in 1964 and again in 1965 where she met Steve. He would come through the cafeteria line where she was handing out salads. He would ask what salad she would recommend and then take a different one because he thought she looked cute when she got mad.

Steve’s first job as a married man was as a handyman and caretaker at Camp Tendoy (now Camp Taylor). In the fall of 1966, the couple moved to Provo, Utah, to attend BYU where Steve had received a scholarship. In 1967, the couple moved back to Pocatello where Steve worked a number of jobs until 1968 when their daughter Krystal was born and he joined the Pocatello Fire Department. In 1977, he was appointed Fire Marshal by Fire Chief Hal Call, a position he held until his retirement in December of 1994. He had several ventriloquist figures named Edgar L. Merriwether and Sparky the fire dog which he would take to all the schools to deliver fire prevention and safety messages.

Steve and Beverlee have five children, 17 grandchildren (with the 18th due in November) and two great-granddaughters. Their children are Krystal Wirth, (Don) Steven, (DeNelle) Michael, Nicholas (Kristy) and Denim (Leslie), along with all the grandchildren joined them for a weeklong 50th anniversary celebration earlier this summer in Salt Lake City.
