Idaho State lost 5-2 at Portland State on Saturday afternoon.

Portland State (4-2, 1-0 Big Sky Conference) picked up the doubles point after winning a tie-break at the No. 2 doubles position. PSU won at No. 1 doubles while Idaho State (3-3, 1-1 Big Sky Conference) won at No. 3 doubles as Keegan Sullivan and Francis Filipovich defeated Nathan Boniel and Gabe Souza 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Adam Hornby and William Edin battled to force a tie-break, but the Vikings claimed the 7-6 (7-4) win and the doubles point.

“The doubles point came down to a tie-break,” ISU coach Mark Rodel said. “Portland State played well and capitalized on the doubles point.”

The Bengals battled the Vikings in singles play, but dropped four of the six matches. Peter Trhac picked up a victory at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tommy Edwards while Adam Horby defeated Bukhari Majeed at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.

“I was impressed by PSU, and I have challenged our team to make the necessary changes, look at taking more risk when they play and find ways to create opportunities,” Rodel said.

Idaho State continues play Sunday at Seattle. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. MST.
