Georgetown's Trae Smith will leave high school rodeo as a world champion after winning tie-down roping and team roping with Jerome's Breck Ward, on Saturday at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Smith, a 2018 high school graduate, had the best time in the final go-round of tie-down roping, finishing in 8.69 seconds.

In team-roping with Ward, they put together a second-place time of 5.99 seconds in the final go, which was still good enough to put them in first place overall.

Smith was the highest-ranked Idahoan in the all-around cowboy standings, placing seventh with 400 points.

The national championship-winning performances this week follows the Idaho High School State Finals rodeo in June, when Smith and Ward also placed first in team roping and Smith won tie-down roping.

Other top Idaho performers in the National High School Finals Rodeo were Oakley's Aubryn Bedke and Tendoy's Jake Kesl.

Bedke placed third in breakaway roping, while Kesl finished seventh in bareback riding.

The Idaho boys placed 10th in the team standings, while the Idaho girls placed finished 13th.
