Soda Springs senior post Kiersten Rasmussen was named 2A District 5 girls basketball player of the year by the league’s coaches, announced Monday. Rasmussen was one of four Cardinals players to earn all-conference honors.

Cardinals freshman Sadie Gronning and junior Kaycee Smith joined Rasmussen on the first team, and junior Kathryne McCullough was a second-team honoree. The Cardinals won their sixth consecutive district championship this season before taking third at the 2A state tournament.

Malad senior Hanah Peterson was named to the first team, while teammates Sadie Simpson, Emmah Peterson and Shawnee Simpson earned second-team honors. The Dragons, in their first state tournament since 2012, knocked off Soda Springs in the semifinals before falling to Ririe in the state title game.

Aberdeen senior Makenna Schritter rounds out the first team, while Bear Lake junior Karissa Parker is the fifth member of the second team.
