Throughout the NFL season, we’ll check in with former Idaho State football players currently in the NFL. Here’s an update after the sixth week of the regular season.
Evan Smith (2004-08) and Dirk Koetter (1977, 79-81)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Adrian Peterson rushed for two touchdowns and 134 yards in his Arizona debut and the Cardinals held off a second-half Tampa Bay rally to beat the Buccaneers 38-33 at home Sunday.
Backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns to bring Tampa Bay back from a 31-0, third-quarter deficit. The Buccaneers lost starting quarterback Jameis Winston to a right shoulder injury in the second quarter.
Former Idaho State lineman Evan Smith played, but did not start. Smith has played in all five of Tampa Bay’s games this season, making one start.
The Buccaneers (2-3) play Sunday at the Buffalo Bills.
Josh Hill (2009-12)
New Orleans Saints
Josh Hill started in the Saints’ 52-38 win Sunday at the Detroit Lions, but did not record a catch.
The former Idaho State tight end has started four of five games this season, making four receptions for 32 yards.
The Saints (3-2) play Sunday at the Green Bay Packers.
Marvin Lewis (1978-80)
Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati had a bye week after starting the season 2-3. The team puts its two-game winning streak on the line Sunday at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
