For a man who shows loyalty to no one, it is puzzling how former President Donald Trump has been able to maintain his voter base. He knows how to sling catchy political phrases, but if one digs there’s no substance behind his political messaging.

Recall what Trump promised the nation when he won the presidency. He was going to fix our healthcare system. Trump was going to repair and replace our aging infrastructure. He was going to quickly balance the Federal budget. Trump was going to build a wall that Mexico would pay for; so many promises without delivery.

What actually happened was that Trump did nothing during his 4 years to improve America’s healthcare system or its infrastructure. Biden’s Administration is working to bring down drug prices, and managed to get a major infrastructure bill passed with bipartisan support, while Trump incurred more national debt during four years in office than any president in American history. That partially occurred because Trump pushed through a major tax cut for corporations and wealthy supporters that continues to fuel Federal deficits.

Trump delivered on one promise. He stacked the U.S. Supreme Court with vetted justices who overturned a woman’s right of choice to control her body. Denying women reasonable access to abortion is so unpopular it has resulted in the defeat of every initiative brought to limit access since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

The chameleon Trump, knowing this issue is politically toxic, now claims he supports providing women with reasonable access to abortion in order to improve his chances for re-election. His campaign this time around lacks grandiose promises, and is about avoiding criminal liability, and exacting revenge upon those who failed to assist his coup attempt or are prosecuting him for criminal actions.

The former president was found guilty by a civil jury of sexually assaulting a woman; his company was convicted of tax and charity fraud; he has been charged (and just convicted) for business fraud involving gross exaggeration of the value of his assets. Trump also stands indicted for election fraud and the willful refusal to return top secret government documents, yet, he remains a viable candidate. What explains Trump’s voter loyalty?

It’s simple. The average American has experienced a longstanding decline in their standard of living. It was the highest in the world when Ronald Reagan was elected president in the 80s. Reagan’s tax revolution, which provided massive benefits to the rich, and his anti-union policies brought about two things — an ongoing shift in asset accumulation beneficial solely to the wealthiest Americans, and a continuing decline in the standard of living for the middle class.

Trump took a page out of Hitler’s game plan, and began demonizing immigrants and Muslims while promising to make America great again. However, his actions did nothing to improve the standard of living for our middle class. Now that he’s running again, it’s hard for some people to admit they made a mistake in electing a compulsive liar who spun populist nonsense while promoting policies that benefited the wealthy class.

Hear the people who worked in close quarters with Donald Trump when he was the president. His constant administration turnover had accomplished people leaving government stating he was incompetent — he’s called many of the people he hired idiots and dumbasses (remember he was going to hire only the best and the brightest). Those voices of alarm substantially increased after Trump engaged in a plot to seize power when he lost the election by 7 million votes.

Trump now dangles pardons for people convicted of violently assaulting police officers at our Capital, and he has threatened to use the presidency to exact revenge against those who revealed and/or prosecute his criminality. He’s even said that top brass in the military will be removed and/or could have been executed — guess why — they stood for the Constitution and refused to help him seize power when he lost the election. Trump’s threats reveal his scheme to reconfigure the military to permanently seize power if he were re-elected.

Two young women exemplify what will save America — Alyssa Farrah Griffin and Cassidy Hutchinson have provided compelling testimony regarding Donald Trump’s unfitness to serve again as president. Both are traditional Republican insiders who worked for Trump. However, they abandoned loyalty to Trump after witnessing his criminal efforts to subvert the will of the American people.

Cassidy testified honestly after dumping the attorney Trump provided who encouraged her to lie on the president’s behalf (the same thing happened with a witness in the documents case). Hutchinson was coached that having a conveniently bad memory isn’t lying — that self-serving advice was a lie folks; ethical lawyers instruct their clients to answer questions truthfully.

Donald Trump faces probable convictions in four jurisdictions, but polls suggest the American people will likely serve as his ultimate jury. Come election time, heed the chorus of informed Republicans from Trump’s past administration and top military figures all warning us Trump is unfit for office and presents a clear danger to our democracy. Loyalty to Trump is too steep of a price to pay when it comes to protecting our beloved country.

Circulation of the Journal less than 9000? That's freaking hilarious. No wonder they are going to be mailing newspapers. Isn't Pocatello alone, a

Population of over 57,000. It appears that go woke, go broke......is a fact. The Thrifty Nickel has

More readers. Maybe the Journal should cater to

The people that live here instead of being the

Private Opinion Page of a dozen or so communists.

Trump is loyal to America....unlike you POS commiecrats. Trump was infiltrated by leftists

Who leaked and sabotaged his administration.

If you don't like the guy, why are all of you leftist scumbags so eager to work for him?

Mike Mathews

Even if that BS was true you're really going to say that trump is the dumb a z z that we've been telling you about for years?

Old Crow

Were you born this stupid or did you have to get

That way by radical leftist professors?

Mike Mathews

No it's called observation. It's not a new science and it didn't come from a 'professor'. Try to stay with it this time. trump doesn't care about ideology. He could easily have been a Democrat but was shunned by the Hollywood elite. He would happily drop all of you and go running to LA if they changed their minds. Don't ask me to explain the manbaby because I can't. I just know that he doesn't give a sh i t about you or any other idiot that is willing to throw themselves under the bus for him. He has a special disregard for people like you who praise him and follow him around. You'll only be useful as long as you give him money or cover. Don't get me wrong..... I love that you and your friends place yourselves on his alter for slaughter. Carry on!

Old Crow

I don't praise Trump. I don't follow Trump. And I

Don't give money to Trump. He's the best president we've ever had......with scum like Bama

Biden, Clinton, Kennedy in our history, that's not

Saying much....but unlike them.....Trump loves

America.

There are definitely people who are educated beyond their intelligence. Lumpy comes to mind. Shrub too. What the leftist media democrat propaganda was politely trying to say is that Trump does well with malignantly, terminally stupid people.

"I love the poorly educated."- Donald jenius Trump

Old Crow

And democrats love the highly educated brainwashed sheep like you. Trump only said that

Because the leftist media democrat propaganda machine said he does well with the poorly educated. You elitist snobs think that means

Stupid......yet the poorly educated weren't the

Ones who lined up to get the poison jab. It's funny how a college education steals away your

Common sense and the ability to think for yourself. Abraham Lincoln was poorly education

You leftist pri-ck.
