Interstate 15 wreck

Traffic backs up on Interstate 15 in Pocatello after a Tuesday night crash that resulted in a motorcyclist’s death.

POCATELLO — A Pocatello man is dead after crashing his motorcycle, temporarily shutting down Interstate 15 northbound in Pocatello, Idaho State Police said.

State police identified the motorcyclist as Noey Varner, 72. Police said Varner was traveling northbound on the interstate just south of the South Fifth Avenue exit around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday when he entered the median, lost control of the Honda VTX1300 he was driving and crashed.

State police said the wreck occurred in a construction zone on the freeway.

Varner, who was not wearing a helmet, died of his injuries at the scene.

The crash shut down Interstate 15 northbound for nearly three hours.

The accident remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
