1. What legislation are you most proud of passing and why?

I am proud of the fact that we have achieved substantial tax relief in each of the sessions—four regular sessions and one special session—since I was elected in 2020. This year, via H521, we added to property tax relief by allocating money for school facilities funding. I am a big fan of reducing property taxes, especially where, as here, we “kill two birds with one stone,” putting needed dollars into new school facilities.

2. What legislation are you most disappointed that failed to pass this session and why?

I am disappointed that we did not pass legislation to expand parental school choice options in Idaho. I am a big believer in competition as a driver of efficiency and innovation. When there are efficiency gains in education, kids benefit. When there is innovation in education, kids benefit.

3. What will you be working on in the interim for the session next year?

I have been pleased with one of the trends in the Legislature over the last couple of years: we have been achieving more transparency in government. This year, the JFAC budgeting process changed in a way that brings additional transparency. That’s a win. I would like to bring added transparency to taxes. I’ll be working on some ideas with that goal in mind.
