IDAHO FALLS — One person was killed and three others were hospitalized after an early Monday morning confrontation between two groups of people erupted in gunfire in the Compass Academy parking lot.
Bonneville County Coroner Rick Taylor ID’d the deceased as 25-year-old Alexander Barber. Taylor said an autopsy was needed to confirm the cause of death, but one of the victims told the Post Register that a gunshot caused Taylor’s fatal injuries.
Devan Johnson, 26, was hospitalized in intensive care at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He told the Post Register through an intermediary that he had been shot twice, once in the chest and once in the knee.
Johnson also was able to share cellphone video showing a heated verbal dispute leading up to the shooting.
The video cuts to Johnson, laying on the ground, saying, “(expletive) I just got shot, bruh,” before being shot in the knee and screaming in pain. Immediately after Johnson was shot a second time, a light-colored pickup truck is seen running over two people who were laying on the ground as the driver fled the scene.
Johnson said he showed up at the parking lot to support a friend’s little brother who was in a beef with members of the other group.
Aughenbaugh
In the hours after the shooting, Idaho Falls police officers were looking for 18-year-old Taylor Aughenbaugh, who was described as armed and dangerous. Aughenbaugh was taken into custody sometime before 9:30 a.m.
Police also arrested 19-year-old Gabriel Perkins in connection with the incident.
Aughenbaugh is charged with two counts of aggravated battery. Perkins is charged with aggravated battery and felony leaving the scene of an injury accident. Both men are from Idaho Falls.

A police department news release said that upon arrival at the scene law enforcement officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid and called for assistance from the Idaho Falls Fire EMS. Ambulances responded, took over emergency medical care and transported all three victims to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. A fourth injured person involved in the situation was located at EIRMC and had been taken there by a private vehicle.
Three people injured in this incident were hospitalized.
Idaho Falls School District 91 closed Compass Academy to students on Monday so as not to interfere with the police investigation.
