The Property Tax Reduction (PTR) program, which helps Idahoans 65 and older save up to $1,500 on their property taxes, is moving to online-only applications in 2024.

The PTR program, formerly known as the “circuit breaker,” reduces property taxes for seniors, widows and widowers and recognized disabled persons if their annual income is $37,000 or less. Applications for 2024 are due April 15.

In order to help those who may be intimidated by online applications, the Bannock County Assessor’s Office is hosting several open houses in the community to help people with the process.

“This is such a great program that can really help people who are retired or on fixed income stay in their homes, said Assessor Anita Hymas. “We want to make sure everyone in Bannock County who qualifies receives this benefit.”

Hymas is encouraging people who may qualify to work with the Bannock County Assessor’s Office to determine if they meet the qualifications. Applicants can reach out to the Assessor’s Office for questions or help filling out the application by calling 208- 236-7260.

Open houses will be held throughout the community to meet those who can’t travel to the Assessor’s Office in Pocatello. People are encouraged to attend an open house to ask questions and get help applying.
