AMERICA250/BLACKFOOT125 UPCOMING EVENTIt’s the month for a movie and popcorn! Each week the America250 Patriotic Film Festival will show a different movie that celebrates the preservation of our freedoms, either in the nation’s forming or our journey to flourish as a nation throughout the last 250 years.

Coming to the Blackfoot Movie Mill screen will be Mr. Smith Goes to Washington from Mar. 6-12, Midway (2019) from Mar. 13-19, Hoppers at the Sensory Family movie on Mar. 14 which is open to the general public also, Apollo 13 from Mar. 20-26 and The Patriot from Mar. 27- Apr. 2. All of the showings will be at matinee times that vary with the day. For details see the flyer on the city’s website or online at royaltheaters.com. All tickets are $5 per person per usual.

This month’s Revolutionary Spud Buddy is Marquis de LaFryette who will be attending one matinee per week, which is indicated as a red-carpet matinee on the Film Festival flyer. If you want a photo with the Marquis, plan to come early so there is time before the show starts.

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERSThe AARP is helping with income taxes every Tuesday and Thursday night from 5-8 p.m. at the Bingham County Senior Center at 20 East Pacific Street. This service is free and open to anyone.

The Bingham County Historical Museum is temporarily closed while they do renovations. They will have a grand reopening in the Spring — whenever that is this year.

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGSWednesday:

Legislators update and Q&A is at 7 a.m. at Dawn Enterprises at 280 Cedar St. in Blackfoot. Ever wish to be heard? Here is the chance.

It’s Ladies Night at the Taste of Teton at 80 N. Broadway in Blackfoot. For 5 hours you can enjoy half off specials with your meal.

The Kiwanis club is having an open house at Dawn Enterprises from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Come hear about their goals to mentor and serve the youth and the community.

D&D anyone? Tonight is the opening campaign of the North Bingham County District Library’s Dungeons and Dragons adventure. The dice start rolling at 6 p.m. at the library located at ____ W. Locust in Shelley.

Friday:

St. Bernard’s Lenten Fish Fry is at 5 p.m. at the Church Hall at 584 W. Sexton St. in Blackfoot. The meal of breaded fish, coleslaw, fries, drink and dessert costs $13.99 a plate. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

Early Childhood Parent Committee is hosting a Social Powwow “Tzi-Tzi’s Making Trail” today starting at 6 p.m. at Timbee Hall in Fort Hall.

Saturday:

The Blackfoot Charter school is hosting a Sources to Strengthen our Community Resource and Craft Fair today from 9 a. m. to 1 p.m. The fair is located at 92 N. 415 W. in Blackfoot.

Bingham County Senior Center Annual Community Pancake Breakfast is from 8-10 a.m. The fundraiser will be at the Center located at 20 E. Pacific and costs $10 per person or $6 for those 10 years old or younger. The buffet is generously sponsored by the Elks Lodge and Travis Parker.

Game-On is back for one night only. The Nuart Theatre, located at 195 N. Broadway, will be where this unique game show will be at 7:30 p.m. Brandt Hurley will host the returning champion Joe Abercrombie with three new celebrity contestants as they vie for the win. At the Sho-Ban Event Center Mark Wills will be on stage with favorite country songs from the late 1990s and early 2000s. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets range from $39-$49.

Sunday:

The Idaho Diocesan Bishop The Rt. Rev. Jos Tharakan will be visiting St. Paul’s Episcopalian Church’s service located at 72 N. Shilling in Blackfoot. They are meeting at 10 a.m. for worship followed by a fellowship hour. This kind, approachable bishop has walked with Mother Teresa in India and speaks often of what he learned from her.

St. Bernard’s Catholic Church will have a pancake breakfast today from 11 a.m. — noon at their social hall at 583 W. Sexton St. Everyone is welcome !

Monday:

Collet’s Pub in Firth is dropping BINGO balls tonight at 7 p.m. The cards are free and there are lots of prizes and good food as well.

Tuesday:

Community Food & Agricultural Needs discussion will be at the Chief Pocatello 2 room at the Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Event Center — open to all tribe members on and off the reservation and any interested allies. A buffalo stew will be served at 5:15 with the conversation about native food sovereignty and security in the future starting soon afterwards. Sponsored by Rodale Institute and the University of Idaho Extension, who will present available resources as well as education and training opportunities. Questions? Remember that the free Community Dinner Table will have a hot meal ready for you at 5 — 6:30 p.m. at the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church located at 168 S. University. Come for nourishment for the body and the friendship of the Blackfoot community.

RIPPLESWays to serve the people around you, trusting that positive ripples of good will spread out and encourage others to do likewise. Or as President Ronald Reagan said, “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”

For over 50 years the national Senior Nutrition Program has been helping seniors stay healthy with meals and social interactions. The Bingham County Senior Center serves lunch Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. — 12:30 p.m. and Breakfast on Fridays from 9-10:30 a.m. For seniors, those over 60 years, the meals are paid for with federal assistance and a suggested donation of $7. No senior is turned away if they can’t donate.

The meals are also available to the rest of the community, though they cost $9 since they aren’t subsidized. The center encourages families to come and share a meal together — or anyone in the public who would rather meet someone new than eat alone.

For those that can’t make it to the senior center, the “Meals on Wheels” program was set up to continue to provide healthy meals and independence. The Center serves over 80 seniors in their homes. If you want to help these seniors pay for their meals, join the $5.00 a month club. Call 208-785-4714 for more details.

Periodically there are fundraisers to finance these programs, especially the Meals on Wheels program. This Saturday the Elks Lodge and Travis Packer are sponsoring a Community Pancake Breakfast at the Senior Center, located at 20 E. Pacific, from 8-10 a.m. The buffet costs $10 per person or $6 for those 10 years old or younger.

Looking for yet another way to help? The Center also will be selling cream pies, chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, personal fruit cobblers and rada knives. If you don’t know what a rada knife is — come find out — in a safe environment.

Looking Forward: The Greater Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce is asking for help filling the Easter eggs for their Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, Apr. 4. Small, individually wrapped candied can be left at the Chamber office at 70 W. Judicial St. in Blackfoot. The deadline for these sweet donations is Friday, Mar. 13, giving volunteers time to fill the eggs.
