A man was killed and another man was detained in a deadly shooting in Meridian on Sunday afternoon.

According to an email from Meridian police on Sunday evening, the shooting took place at 195 E. Central Drive, the address to a McDonald’s just north of the heavily trafficked Interstate 84 and Meridian Road interchange and south of downtown Meridian, located in the heart of the Treasure Valley.

The MPD news release said that the suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Jacob L. Streat of Nampa, who has been arrested on a charge of second-degree murder.

According to the release, Streat and the 27-year-old victim approached each other in the parking lot of the business and Streat discharged a handgun, firing more than a dozen rounds with multiple rounds striking the man, who was unarmed.

Meridian police said that, while the events that led up to the shooting are still under investigation, “the confrontation may have been a result of a road rage situation or traffic dispute which took place on Interstate 84.”

“Several eyewitnesses have been or are being interviewed, and there are potentially multiple forms of video footage of the event in question,” the release states.

The vehicles involved in the incident were a silver 2023 Toyota Tacoma and a blue 2009 Honda Accord, according to Meridian police. The news release added that the vehicles may have been traveling eastbound on Interstate 84 between Nampa and Meridian just before the incident.

MPD asks anyone who was in the area at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and has any information, to please call the department at 208-888-6678. Streat was arraigned Monday afternoon and his bond was set at $2 million. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 9.

An original email from Meridian Patrol Lt. Brandon Frasier on Sunday at 2:06 p.m. said that officers were “on the scene of a shooting near 195 E Corporate,” which is a nearby intersection.

“I can confirm one adult male is deceased, and the male who shot him is being detained,” Frasier wrote at the time. “There are witnesses to the shooting as well as multiple pieces of video evidence to review.”

He added that more information will be released as the investigation unfolds.

“As always, there is a swirl of information both true and otherwise,” Frasier wrote.
