Gas prices soared more than 10 cents overnight in several parts of Idaho, AAA reported Tuesday morning.

Drivers in Boise, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Falls and Twin Falls saw the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline jump a dime or more from Monday, in line with the statewide average increase from $4.06 to $4.16. Nationally, gas prices jumped 2 cents overnight but have risen 16 cents in the past week.

As of Tuesday morning, average gas prices around Idaho — and their overnight increases — were as follows:

• Boise: $4.15, up 12 cents
• Coeur d’Alene: $4.04, up 15 cents
• Idaho Falls: $4.10, up 12 cents
• Lewiston: $4.05, up 6 cents
• Pocatello: $4.14, up 8 cents
• Rexburg: $4.13, up 8 cents
• Twin Falls: $4.14, up 11 cents

“Crude oil is bought in the futures market. Tensions are running high in the Middle East, so the future is pretty murky right now,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “As refineries pay the higher replacement cost of crude oil, the sticker shock passes down the line, affecting everything from the price of a plane ticket to the cost of your next food delivery.”

Conde noted that carpooling is an effective way to save on fuel, and that some retailers, credit card companies and cell phone providers offer discounts at the pump.
