A 59-year-old man who was previously a teacher and football coach at Caldwell High School was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually abusing a child under 16.

Middleton resident Kip Crofts, who was taken into custody while at his job, was most recently a custodian at the Nampa Development Services office.

According to KTVB, the Nampa Police Department was asked by the Caldwell Police Department five months ago to investigate the accusations against Crofts, though the alleged abuse took place when he was employed by the Caldwell School District.

Crofts had worked for the city of Nampa for two months. The Nampa Police Department’s community engagement coordinator, Carmen Boeger, said in a Thursday press release that the police investigation had been confidential and that the human resources department knew nothing of it when Crofts applied to and was hired for the custodial position.

Crofts used to be listed on the Caldwell School District’s high school physical education page and had been the head football coach in 2023 and 2024. Prior to his employment with that district, he had coached in the Payette and West Ada districts — including Meridian High’s state championship team in 2007 — as well as at Bishop Kelly High School.

The Nampa Police Department urged anyone with information about the Crofts case to contact the agency with jurisdiction over where an alleged crime occurred.
