The Pocatello boys and Highland girls swim teams each made waves to start the season.

They each recorded wins at the all city meet Wednesday inside the Ross Park Aquatic Center.

The Thunder racked up a meet-high 462 points and the Rams 439 on the day.

Kaiden Irwin led the way for Pocatello with victories in the 100-yard (53.73 seconds) and 200-yard (1- minute, 58.8 seconds) freestyles to go along with swimming the anchor leg of winning the 400 freestyle relay (3:47.89) team.

Gavin Hill and Zander Enslinger were members of that relay team, as well. Hill and Enslinger also added titles in the 200 individual medley (2:24.53) and 500 freestyle (5:35.39), respectively.

For Highland, it was all about Addisyn Fenstermaker.

She went a perfect 4-for-4 by anchoring both the 200 medley (2:14.32) and 200 freestyle (1:57.6) relays in addition to decisive wins in the 200 (2:09.19) and 100 (57.87) freestyles where Fenstermaker touched the wall at least five seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.

Rachel Long set up Fenstermaker in each of those relays. She started the freestyle and swam the third leg of the medley. Long left as the girls fastest swimmer, too, with her win in the 50 freestyle (29.08) seconds.

The Rams also got multiple wins from Cooper Hoopes (100 boys backstroke, 200 medley relay) and Spencer Van Orden (50 boys freestyle, 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay).

The Thunder had Quincy Stuart (200 girls IM, 100 breaststroke, 400 freestyle relay), Ryan Eberle (100 girls backstroke, 400 freestyle relay) and Alea Doerr (500 girls freestyle, 400 freestyle relay) top the podium multiple times.

And rounding it out for Century was Deacon Major with his wins in the 100 boys breaststroke (1:08.73) and 100 butterfly (59.58).

VOLLEYBALL

IDAHO FALLS 3, HIGHLAND 1

The Rams (6-4-1) have dropped back-to-back matches for the first time this season after a 12-25, 26-24, 24-26, 14-25 loss on the road Thursday night.

Chloee Leslie had 18 kills and 13 digs to lead Highland in the loss.

Kennedi Winder also reached double digits in kills with 10. Jayda Ward tallied a team-high 33 assists and Amaree Pongah 22 digs.

POCATELLO 3, IDAHO FALLS 1

The Thunder (9-2) dropped the first set, but rallied back for a 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 win on the road Thursday night.

Jakobi Nebeker paced them with 18 kills and six digs. Abby Lusk 13 kills, eight digs, Adrie Johnson 18 digs, Brooklyn Haymore and Kenna Garza five blocks apiece and Josie Haymore 34 assists and nine digs in the win.

RIGBY 3, BLACKFOOT 2

The Broncos (6-3) dropped their home opener in a five-set thriller that included a 15-17 fifth-set loss Thursday night.

No other stats were reported by press time.

AMERICAN FALLS 3, ABERDEEN 0

Saryn Aiken tallied five kills and three aces as the Beavers (2-1) recorded a 25-11, 25-15, 25-16 sweep Wednesday night on the road.

Berklee Fehringer and Kimber Palazzo were close behind with four kills apiece. Averi Brower had team-highs in both aces (six) and assists (eight). Sari Povey also had six aces in the win for American Falls.

No stats for Aberdeen were reported.

POCATELLO 3, THUNDER RIDGE 0

Hailee Pool, Hallie Bringhurst and Aryanna Gonzalez all found the back of the net, as the Thunder (3-2) recorded their third straight win Thursday on the road.

SKYLINE 8, BLACKFOOT 0

The Broncos (0-1-3, 0-1 5A HCC) suffered their first loss of the season to open up 5A High Country Conference play Thursday night in Idaho Falls.

MADISON 1, PRESTON 0

Ella Marloaw made eight saves for the Indians (2-4) in a nonconference loss on the road Thursday.

MALAD 4, FIRTH 1

The Dragons (3-0) kept their perfect record intact Thursday on the road.

Kamailee Singh notched a pair of goals as the Eagles (4-2) were absolutely dominant in their third straight win Wednesday at home.

Isabelle Bastian added a goal and two assists, while nine other players got in on the scoring frenzy. They included Gracie Young, Lillian Bastian, Olivia Cieslak, Tayzlee Belnap, Sarai McBride, Madison Foster, Milli Worlton, Grace Schroeder and Alyssa Kedall.

Ammon Bitten and Paja Weed both scored, as the Diamondbacks (3-0-1) remained unbeaten Thursday at home.

It’s their third consecutive game without allowing a single goal.

Shayne Kennedy scored on a header off a corner from Kason Ryerson in the 20th minute as the Thunder (0-3-2) settled for a tie in their home opener Thursday.

BLACKFOOT 5, SKYLINE 1

Gio Labra tallied two goals, as the Broncos (1-2, 1-0 HCC) recorded their first win of the season and in conference play no less Thursday night at home.

Javian Ballesteros, Riley Fransen and Enrique Nevarez scored the other three goals on the day. Ballesteros added a pair of assists, as well.

ABERDEEN 5, DECLO 0

Oscar Orduna recorded the hat trick, as the Tigers (1-1) picked their first win of the season in the home opener Thursday.

MARSH VALLEY 3, ABERDEEN 0

The Eagles (2-2-1) won back-to-back games for the first time this season Wednesday at home.

The coaching staff didn’t want to report any other stats.

Guillermo Barrera made 15 saves for the Tigers (0-1) in their season opener.

The Rams cruised at the Madison Invite Thursday afternoon.

They shot a 352 to win by a whopping 31 strokes.

Megan Merrill anchored them with an 84. But Rebekah Maughan was just two strokes back with an 86.

CENTURY BOYS FINISH RUNNER-UP AT MINICO TOURNAMNET

The Diamondbacks finished just one stroke back of Mountain Home with a 312 to take second at the Minico Tournament Thursday.

Liam McGee took home medalist honors for Century by carding a 72. Coen Cooper also shot in the 70s with a 79.
