PSV's Sergino Dest, right, scores his side's first goal during the Champions League opening phase soccer match between PSV and Shakhtar in Eindhoven, Netherlands, Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026.
Manchester United is back to winning ways in the Champions League, Como made itself at home with a debut win, and Harry Kane can’t stop scoring. Kane scored once and Michael Olise twice in Bayern’s 5-0 rout of last season’s sensation Bodø/Glimt. United returned to the Champions League with a bang after a near-three-year absence from the competition. Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko and Lisandro Martinez all scored in the 4-0 rout of Azerbaijan’s Sabah. Como’s oldest fans had the best seats in the house to see their team beat Leipzig 4-1 in its first-ever game in the Champions League.
United States defender Sergiño Dest swept in the equalizer as PSV Eindhoven drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening Champions League game. The right back timed his run well to meet a low pass from Armando Obispo and score from just inside the penalty area early into the second half. Dest was involved in Shakhtar’s goal on the stroke of halftime. Venezuela midfielder Gleiker Mendoza curled the ball into the bottom right corner. But PSV’s players were angry and claimed Dest had been fouled near the halfway line when he lost the ball.
