MORELAND — Trailing Blackfoot by two points in overtime, Snake River’s Maddie Pilster stepped to the free throw looking to tie the game.

    Pilster made both free throws to send the game into a second period of extra play.

    She added two more free throws at the end of the second overtime to ice the game and give Snake River a 73-70 win over cross-town rival Blackfoot Friday evening at Snake River High School.

    The Panthers had to overcome turnovers, a bunch of missed free throws and a Blackfoot half-court trap that gave the Panthers fits.

    The Broncos did not put on the trap until the second quarter, but once they did Snake River seemed to have no answer.

    Once Snake River head coach Rich Dunn devised a plan to get the ball across half court the Panthers were aggressive in driving to the basket and getting fouled.

    The problem was the Panthers could not capitalize on their free throw attempts.

    Snake River missed six shots from the charity stripe in the second quarter and instead of leading by 14 at the half, took just a 30-22 advantage into the break.

    The misses would come back to haunt Snake River in the third quarter.

    The Panthers opened the quarter with seven straight points to build the lead to 37-22.

    Blackfoot answered with a 19-3 to take its first lead of the game at 41-40.

    The two teams traded points the remainder of the quarter until Maegan Peace’s jumper gave the Panthers a 58-56 with 1:23 left in regulation.

    After Snake River missed two free throws that would have extended the lead to four, Tobey tied the game with two free throws in the final 25 seconds of regulation.

    Back-to-back to steals by Scout Baldwin gave Snake River the lead for good.

    Pilster finished the game with 23 points to lead the Panthers.

    Blackfoot got a game-high 31 points form Morningrose Tobey.

    Snake River (3-1) hosts Sugar-Salem on Tuesday. While Blackfoot (0-5) plays at Pocatello on Wednesday. Tipoff for both games is 7:30 p.m.
