The honors just keep coming for Mack Mauger − even nearly four months after the season.

The recent Blackfoot High School graduate was named an All-American by Wrestling USA Magazine.

The publication, which is one of the oldest in the country for wrestling, picked Mauger for the Academic All-American Team. He graduated with a 3.8 grade- point- average and several college credits in mathematics.

“It’s awesome, super exciting to be selected as an All-American,” Mauger said. “That’s even cooler to be recognized academically.”

It capped a banner year for Mauger.

He went 43-5 with his only losses coming at the Doc B (Clovis, California) and the IRONMAN (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), which are both widely regarded as the two best tournaments in the nation. But Mauger still placed seventh at Doc B.

Mauger four-peated at Tiger-Grizz, districts and state where he became just the 38th wrestler in Idaho history to win four state titles, as well. He pulled off the historic feat with an 11-3 major decision over Bishop Kelly’s Jake Mescher in the Class 4A 126-pound final in February at the ICCU Dome.

Mauger, who also earned the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Dave Schultz High School Excellence award this past season, ended his high school career as one of the most decorated wrestlers in Idaho history. He went 182-10 with only one loss coming to an opponent from Idaho. That was a narrow 3-2 loss his freshman year in the 98-pound final of the Rollie Lane Invitational to Nampa’s Dedrick Navarro, who is now wrestling for Northwestern.

Mauger won 11 national titles, including most recently at March’s Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He’s a multiple-time All-American in freestyle, Greco-Roman and folkstyle, too.

Mauger’s next stop will be at the University of Missouri where he will continue his wrestling career.

“Really special way to end high school,” Mauger said.

Bishop Kelly’s Jadon Skellenger, Mountain View’s Shilo Jones and Meridian’s Jason Mara were also selected by the magazine.
