SNAKE RIVER 3, MARSH VALLEY 2

Marsh Valley's late rally wasn't enough, as Snake River topped the Eagles 3-2 on Tuesday at home.

The Panthers led 2-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after the fourth. Marsh scored one run in the sixth before coming up short with one run in the seventh.

"We played stellar today," Snake River coach Kay Martin said. "It was a well-played game. Nerves almost cost us."

Snake River's Savanna Martin earn the win on the mound after striking out 11 in seven innings. Carter Thornton allowed three earned runs and struck out three in the loss.

"(Thornton) did a really good job," Marsh Valley coach Joel McQuivey said. "She battled hard. Snake hits the ball well. She hit her spots well."

Snake River (9-4, 2-0 3A District 5) plays Thursday at Bear Lake. Marsh Valley (9-6, 0-1 3A District 5) hosts America Falls on Thursday.

BEAR LAKE 16, PRESTON 10 (6)

Bear Lake beat Preston 16-10 Tuesday at home in a high-scoring affair.

The Bears had 15 hits in the win, led by Haylee Eborn's 3-for-4 effort. Teammates Jessica Bateman, Lynee Crane and Mattie Critchlow added three RBIs each.

"We won because we hit the ball," Bear Lake coach Doug Stephens said. "We didn't play good defense. I'm happy with the offense."

Stephanie Oliverson led Preston, going 4 of 4 from the plate with a home run and three RBIs. Saydie Larson went 4 of 4 with an RBI.

"We had some good opportunities to gain some runs but didn't capitalize on the opportunities," Preston coach Larry Morrison said. "We had more errors today then usual, which allowed more plays to happen and more opportunities for the opponent to score."

Bear Lake (6-7, 1-0 2A District 5) hosts Soda Springs on Wednesday. Preston hosts Blackfoot on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

MARSH VALLEY 12, SNAKE RIVER 2 (6)

Marsh Valley used a complete offensive effort to top Snake River 12-2 in six innings Tuesday on the road.

Seven of nine Eagles notched a hit, including two from Caden May. Snake River's Dalin Waddoups went 2 for 3 at the plate.

Marsh Valley hosts American Falls on Thursday. Snake River (3-11, 1-1 3A District 5) plays Thursday at Malad.

SHELLEY 10, TETON 0 (5)

Shelley's Peyton Whitaker tossed a one-hit shutout in the team's 10-0 five-inning win Tuesday at Teton.

The pitcher, who struck out five and walked two on 68 pitches, had his no-hitter broken up with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Whitaker also went 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBIs.

Shelley (8-1, 1-0 3A District 6) hosts Sugar-Salem on Thursday.

GOLF

FALLS CLASSIC

Highland's Payton Fehringer carded a 73 to capture the top girls score at Tuesday's Falls Classic at Sage Lakes Golf Course. The junior was five strokes better than her next competitor. The Rams did not bring enough golfers to qualify for a team finish. Shelley and Preston finished seventh and ninth, respectively, at the nine-team event.

The Century boys finished seventh at the 16-team classic. The Diamondbacks shot a 329, 24 strokes behind meet-champion Minico. Shelley was the next-highest local finisher, carding a 336 and an eighth-place finish. Blackfoot finished tied for 10th with a 348, Highland finished 13th with a 354, Pocatello finished 13th with a 388 and Preston finished 15th with a 415.

Pocatello's Wyatt Ralphs and Century's Adam Ping carded the best scores from local teams, with a 77 and 78, respectively.

TENNIS

SUGAR-SALEM 5, POCATELLO 1 (BOYS)

SUGAR-SALEM 4, POCATELLO 2 (GIRLS)

The Pocatello boys lost 5-1 to Sugar-Salem, while the Poky girls fell 4-2 Tuesday.

Pocatello's Josh Halverson picked up the only win on the boys side, winning 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (5) against Brenden Lockhart.

Pocatello's Emily Hansen defeated Harmonee Nelson 6-3, 6-3, while McKenzie Chatterton beat Emalee Owens 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Pocatello plays Thursday at Century.

BONNEVILLE AT HIGHLAND

Highland's home conference matchup Tuesday with Bonneville was postponed because of weather. The match has been rescheduled to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Osborne Tennis Complex at Capell Park.
