WEST SIDE 66, MARSH VALLEY 64

Stockton Brown's basket with 1.2 seconds remaining lifted West Side to a 66-64 home win Saturday over Marsh Valley.

Brown and the Pirates rallied from a late five-point deficit to steal the victory.

“Marsh Valley shot the ball real well. They led us for quite a bit of the game,” West Side coach Tyler Brown said. “Wins have been hard to come by this year, so we'll take it and hopefully build on that.”

Stockton Brown led all scorers with 23 points as West Side (3-6) hosts Grace on Thursday. Bracken Howell scored 19 points to lead Marsh Valley (3-5), which hosts Filer on Friday.

“Both teams played really well offensively,” Eagles coach Jason Brower said. “We're heading in the right direction.”

PRESTON 66, BLACKFOOT 55

Blackfoot suffered a 66-55 home loss against Preston on Saturday on the final day of the State Farm Holiday Invitational.

The Broncos led 28-27 at halftime before being outscored 39-27 in the second half.

“We played three pretty good quarters,” Blackfoot coach Cody Shelley said. “Fourth quarter, they got some run-outs and easy layups. My guards got tired.”

Blackfoot (4-5, 1-2 4A District 6) plays Wednesday at Highland. Preston (11-1, 4-1 4A District 4-5) plays Thursday against Logan (Utah) at the Spectrum at Utah State University.

RIRIE 54, SNAKE RIVER 52

Snake River's fourth-quarter rally wasn't enough in Saturday's 54-52 home loss to Ririe.

The Panthers trailed 44-35 after three frames before outscoring the Bulldogs 17-10 in the fourth.

Mitch Lindsay scored a team-high 14 points for Snake River (7-2), which hosts Soda Springs on Saturday.

BEAR LAKE 63, GRACE 51 (OT)

Bear Lake scrapped out a 63-51 overtime win Saturday at home over Grace.

The Bears trailed 46-37 after three quarters before outscoring Grace 26-15 the rest of the way —including 12-0 in overtime.

“We found a way to win. It wasn't pretty on either side,” Bear Lake coach Brandon Carlsen said. “I thought we looked a little rusty coming out of Christmas break. We showed some youth tonight at times.”

Carlsen highlighted the play of seniors Trey Shaul (21 points) and Zack Petersen (19 points). The Bears (10-0) play Saturday at North Fremont. Theo Wood led the way with 17 points for Grace (7-4), which plays Thursday at West Sid

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PRESTON 53, MARSH VALLEY 30

Preston used the second quarter to pull away from Marsh Valley in a 53-30 home win Saturday.

The Indians outscored the Eagles 17-2 in the second quarter.

“I was very happy that our intensity level was up the whole game,” Preston coach Kimber Hall said. “That's what we've struggled with the whole year.”

Bethany Dow scored 24 points to lead the Indians (10-5, 5-2 4A District 4-5), who host Jerome on Friday. Marsh Valley (3-9) hosts Sugar-Salem on Thursday.

RIRIE 60, SNAKE RIVER 40

Snake River was outscored 40-17 in the second half of Saturday's 60-40 home loss to Ririe.

The Panthers led 23-20 at halftime.

“The start of the second half, we certainly were getting out-hustled,” Snake River coach Jeff Steadman said. “So we need to improve in that area.”

Josee Steadman scored a team-high 16 points for Snake River (7-5), which plays Friday at Sugar-Salem.
