POCATELLO AT HIGH COUNTRY CONFERENCE DUALS

Pocatello went 4-0 Friday at the High Country Conference Duals at Bonneville High School.

The Indians beat Idaho Falls 48-42, Madison 44-42, Rigby 39-33 and Skyline 48-24.

“We came in with a limited number of hard-working kids looking to win,” Indians coach JB Plato said. “Some kids have really stepped up to win us duals: Bridger Smith at 106 (pounds) who is undefeated along with Jorsh Ronquillo, Derrek Lindstrom and Brian Jackson.”

Poky concludes the HCC Duals on Saturday against Blackfoot, Bonneville, Hillcrest, Mountain Home and Shelley.

CENTURY AT HIGH COUNTRY CONFERENCE DUALS

Century went 3-1 Friday at the High Country Conference Duals at Bonneville High School.

The Diamondbacks defeated Hillcrest 69-12, Idaho Falls 72-6, Madison 67-16 and fell to Bonneville 43-38.

Ryeker Andersen (120 pounds), Xander Thompson (126) and Easton Millward (152) defeated all four opponents they faced.

Century concludes the HCC Duals on Saturday against Rigby, Skyline, Blackfoot, Shelley and Mountain Home.

BOYS BASKETBALL

KUNA 62, CENTURY 53

Kuna used a strong second half to run past Century 62-53 on Friday at Preston’s 2018 Indian Classic tournament.

The Diamondbacks led 28-23 at halftime before being outscored 20-8 in the third quarter.

“We had some poor defense and they shot well,” Century coach Ryan Frost said of the third quarter. “That put us down, and we couldn’t get out.”

Max Rogers scored 15 points to lead the D-backs (5-2, 3-0 4A District 4-5), who finish the tournament Saturday against Capital in the seventh-place game.

PRESTON 85, SKY VIEW (UT) 75

Preston used a 32-point third quarter to beat Sky View (Utah) on Friday in the semifinals of the 2018 Indian Classic tournament at Preston High.

"(Sky View) came out and got some turnovers and jumped on us early, and then Cooper (Hobson) kind of answered and hit a couple of 3s to get us back into the game," Preston coach Tyler Jones said."

The Indians trailed 58-53 headed into the final frame before rallying to win. Cooper Hobson and Ty Hyde combined to score 55 points for Preston (6-1, 2-1 4A District 4-5), which plays Rigby on Saturday in the tournament's championship game.

MADISON 58, BLACKFOOT 41

Blackfoot could not overcome a cold-shooting third quarter in a 58-41 loss Friday at Madison.

The Broncos were down 25-23 at halftime before being outscored 15-5 in the third period.

“We were right in it,” Blackfoot coach Cody Shelley said. “Madison's defense really stepped up in the second half and the third quarter, especially.”

Reece Robinson scored 15 points to lead the Broncos (2-3, 0-1 4A District 6), who host Idaho Falls on Wednesday.

IDAHO FALLS 58, SHELLEY 27

Shelley remained winless this season with a 58-27 loss Friday at Idaho Falls.

The Russets fell behind 20-6 after eight minutes of play.

Parker Hanson scored nine points to pace Shelley (0-7, 0-1 4A District 6), which hosts Hillcrest on Wednesday.

BEAR LAKE 50, PINEDALE (WY) 32

Bear Lake's second-half defense carried the team to a 50-32 win Friday against Pinedale (Wyoming) at a tournament in Green River, Wyoming.

The Bears outscored Pinedale 26-12 after halftime.

"It was a good test for us," Bear Lake coach Brandon Carlsen said. "We had good stretches of offense, good stretches of defense."

Zack Petersen scored a game-high 20 points for Bear Lake (6-0), which has won 22 games in a row and concludes the tournament Saturday against Jackson Hole (Wyoming).

JACKSON HOLE (WY) 87, WEST SIDE 83

West Side made a failed comeback attempt in an 87-83 loss against Jackson Hole (Wyoming) on Friday at the Green River, Wyoming, tournament.

The Pirates were down 19 points at the end of the third quarter before outscoring their opponent 31-16 and getting within two points with a half-minute left in the game.

“We couldn't get over the hump,” West Side coach Tyler Brown said. “They didn't quit. They very well could have.”

Stockton Brown scored 24 points to lead the Pirates (1-4), who play Evanston (Wyoming) on Saturday.

CENTURY JV 48, MALAD 46

Malad erased a double-digit deficit in the final minutes, but could not complete the comeback against the Century junior varsity team in a 48-46 loss Friday in the 2018 Indian Classic tournament at Preston High.

The Dragons got off a half-court, last-second shot that missed rim.

“We missed a bunch of free throws and easy shots,” Malad coach Tony Gibbs said.

Malad (3-4) plays the JV team from Sky View (Utah) on Saturday on the final day of the tournament. The Dragons beat Sky View's JV 56-54 on Thursday.

GRACE 64, LYMAN 35 (WY)

MOUNTAIN VIEW (WY) 73, GRACE 61

Grace went 1-1 on Friday at the Green River, Wyoming, tournament, beating Lyman (Wyoming) 64-35 before losing 73-61 to Mountain View (Wyoming).

Gage Stoddard combined for 32 points on the day.

“We played a great second half in the first game,” Grace coach Rory Lloyd said. “The second game was a little more of a challenge, playing two in one day.”

Grace (5-3, 1-0 1A DI District 5-6) hosts Soda Springs on Tuesday.

NORTH GEM 49, JACKPOT (NV) 45

North Gem rebounded from Thursday's loss with a come-from-behind win Friday, 49-45 at Jackpot, Nevada.

The Cowboys trailed 27-11 at halftime, but outscored Jackpot 38-18 the rest of the way.

“I think they were feeling sorry for themselves from the loss last night in Mackay,” North Gem coach Kevin McLain said. “It took us until about halfway through the third quarter to get the legs back underneath us and play the kind of basketball we've been playing this year.”

Bronx Holbrook scored a game-high 21 points to lead North Gem (5-1, 3-1 1A DII District 5-6), which plays its home opener Saturday against Leadore.

ROCKLAND 55, LEADORE 17

Rockland went ahead 20-3 over Leadore by the end of the first quarter en route to a 55-17 home win Friday.

The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 38-12.

“We used our height,” Rockland coach Shae Neal said. “We were able to run the floor.”

Pratt Matthews tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds in 11 minutes to lead the Bulldogs (4-3, 2-0 1A DII District 5-6), who host Clark County on Saturday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

HIGHLAND 42, TWIN FALLS 31

Highland beat Twin Falls 42-31 at home Friday to win its fourth consecutive game.

The Rams led 14-3 after the first quarter and never looked back. Makenna Baker led all scorers with 20 points.

Highland (7-4, 1-0 5A District 5-6) hosts Pocatello on Saturday.

BURLEY 51, POCATELLO 48

Pocatello fell 51-48 at Burley on Friday.

The Indians forced a Bobcats turnover in the closing moments, but missed a 3-pointer on the other end of the court.

“Offensively, we did a great job. Defensively, we did pretty good,” Poky coach Brock Gunter said. “But we gave up rebounds. ... They got a couple post players who were pretty physical, and we couldn't match up with them.”

Adi Spillett scored 16 points to lead the Idians (1-9, 0-7 4A District 4-5), who play Saturday at Highland.

PRESTON 58, MARSH VALLEY 44

Preston jumped ahead 20-7 against Marsh Valley before clinching a 58-44 win Friday on the road.

“The biggest thing is we've got to play more than two quarters,” said Eagles coach Kyle McQuivey, whose team outscored the 18-14 in the fourth quarter.

Lyndee Belnap scored a team-high 15 points to lead Marsh Valley, while Bethany Dow compiled a game-high 26 points for Preston.

The Eagles (2-6) host Pocatello on Tuesday, while the Indians (7-5, 4-2 4A District 4-5) host Burley on Thursday.

ABERDEEN 59, AMERICAN FALLS 42

Aberdeen pulled away from American Falls in the second quarter of a 59-42 home win Friday.

The Tigers outscored the Beavers 19-5 in the second period.

“We didn’t match their energy to start the game. We had some nerves,” Aberdeen coach Ryan Wahlen said. “They got past the nerves and played fantastic basketball from the second quarter on. All of our kids played hard tonight, they were more patient and played with discipline. We coaches are very proud of our team.”

Yasmin Ortiz scored 13 points to lead the Tigers (3-6, 0-1 2A District 5), who plays Saturday at Salmon. American Falls (2-7), which was led by Emma Barclay's 22 points, plays Tuesday at Buhl.

SODA SPRINGS 63, CORNER CANYON (UT) 60

Soda Springs rallied from a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit to upend Corner Canyon (Utah) 63-60 on the road Friday.

Corner Canyon features five-star University of Utah signee Kemery Martin (14 points) and University of Wyoming signee Jaeden Vaifanua (23 points).

Corner Canyon, a 5A program, entered Friday's game ranked ninth in MaxPreps' Utah all-classification rankings.

“We only committed 10 turnovers,” Cardinals coach Wade Schvaneveldt said. “The girls took care of the ball extremely well. It was a good team effort.”

Soda Springs (10-0, 1-0 2A District 5) plays American Fork (Utah) on the road Saturday.

ROCKLAND 52, LEADORE 27

Rockland got back on track Friday with a 52-27 home win against Leadore.

Madalyn Permann (23 points) and Eryn Parrish (12 points) were the leading scorers for the Bulldogs, who were able to play their entire varsity roster.

“We played pretty consistent throughout the game,” Rockland coach Vern Nelson said. “Leadore played hard out there. They pushed us at times.”

The Bulldogs (10-1, 4-0 1A DII District 5-6) host American Falls on Thursday.
