Century went 2-0 Friday at the 4A state volleyball tournament, earning a berth in Saturday's semifinals.

The Diamondbacks started the day with a 3-0 sweep of Columbia (25-12, 25-11, 25-15) and capped the day with a 3-0 win against Kuna (25-12, 25-15, 27-25). Zoe Thiros combined to have 24 kills on the day, and Lexi Bull tallied 60 assists.

“We came out really focused in our first game,” D-backs coach Breanne Robinson said. “We played really strong and played really consistent the whole game against Columbia.

“Our match against Kuna, we stayed pretty consistent. We were doing stuff that we've been working on all season, which is really fun to see.”

Robinson said her team trailed by double-digit points in the clinching set against Kuna, which Century won 27-25.

The Diamondbacks (35-5) play defending 5A state champion Bonneville at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rocky Mountain High School. The teams did not face off in the regular season.

“They're a solid group. I've watched those girls play together for a while,” Robinson said. “It's going to be a battle on both sides.”

Malad advanced to Saturday's state semifinals by beating Nampa Christian (25-22, 25-16, 25-20) and West Jefferson (25-23, 25-14, 25-14) on Friday in the 2A state tournament at Capital high School. Britlynn Hubbard had two double-doubles, netting 32 kills and 24 digs on the day. Bayla Tripp also had two double-doubles with 62 assists and 24 digs.

The Dragons' 9 a.m. match against Nampa Christian was a rematch of last year's state championship.

“I was really pleased with how they played. They were able to focus,” Malad coach Camie Tripp said. “I thought our attack game was really solid against Nampa Christian.”

Malad (39-5) plays Firth at 11 a.m. Saturday for a spot in the title match. The Dragons beat the Cougars 3-0 in the team's lone regular-season matchup Sept. 15.

“They're a solid team. I'm not surprised that we're playing them at this point tomorrow,” Tripp said. “We'll definitely have to show up and be focused.”

Snake River was eliminated after going 1-2 Friday in the 3A state tournament at Mountain View High School.

The Panthers began the day with a 3-0 win against Kellogg (25-20, 25-15, 25-20), but fell 3-1 to Sugar-Salem (26-14, 14-25, 19-25, 18-25) and 3-2 to Homedale (18-25, 12-25, 25-15, 25-17, 6-15).

In the win against Kellogg, Bailey Sensenbach had 25 digs and three aces. Abby Morgan had 16 kills and Mia Harper had 15 assists.

Snake River finished the season 13-4.

Soda Springs went 2-1 Friday in the 2A state tournament at Capital High School.

The Cardinals' tournament started with a 3-0 loss at Firth (25-17, 25-16, 25-15). Soda Springs kept its season alive with 3-1 wins against Orofino (27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20) and West Jefferson (25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15) in loser-out matches.

“Today was simply a great team effort by all 10 players. Everyone filled a role,” Cardinals coach Shawnae Somsen said. “We started off a little rough, but we finished strong.”

Soda Springs (32-8) plays defending state champion Nampa Christian at 9 a.m. Saturday in another loser-out game.

GRACE 3, GENESEE 1

Grace went 2-1 in the 1A DI state tournament Friday at Skyview High School.

The Grizzlies opened the tournament with a 3-1 win against Genesee (25-20, 25-10, 15-25, 25-16), before falling to the loser's bracket with a 3-0 misstep against Troy (25-8, 25-22, 25-18). Grace kept its season alive with a 3-1 win against Prairie (26-24, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21) in a loser-out match.

Kylee Painter tallied 29 kills and 21 blocks on the day. Kayci Younger added in 79 digs.

The Grizzlies play Shoshone at 9 a.m. Saturday in another loser-out game.

SALMON RIVER 3, ROCKLAND 0

ROCKLAND 3, CLARK FORK 1

Rockland went 2-1 in the 1A DII state tournament Friday at Borah High School.

The Bulldogs dropped their opening match 3-0 against Salmon River (25-16, 25-22, 25-21), before beating Carey (25-19, 25-23, 25-23) and Clark Fork (25-18, 25-22, 19-25, 28-26) in loser-out matches.

“We really struggled with playing strong out of the start and coming together as a team. It was a struggle finding our rhythm,” Rockland coach Samantha Lowder said. “We had to regroup. … We rallied and managed to strong, consistent game.”

Rockland (23-2) has a rematch with Salmon River at 9 a.m. Friday in a loser-out game.
