A wildfire on the Fort Hall Reservation Thursday evening destroyed a mobile home and left two firefighters injured.

The flames nearly devoured a second mobile home, but firefighters were able to save the residence and keep the blaze away from other nearby structures.

The fire was reported around 6:20 p.m. when the flames from a controlled burn ignited a nearby pile of tires in the Michaud Creek area of the reservation near Pocatello, authorities said.

The fire continued to spread from the tire pile, completely destroying one mobile home, melting the siding on another and then threatening other nearby residences and outbuildings before firefighters from multiple departments contained the blaze around 8 p.m.

The fire also spread into nearby fields, scorching a total of five acres, authorities said.

The flames were completely extinguished by late Thursday night.

The only people requiring medical attention during the blaze were two firefighters who fell victim to heat exhaustion. They were both treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

No one was living in the mobile home destroyed by the fire.

The flames got so close to the mobile home that was saved by firefighters that some of its siding melted.

The fire temporarily shut down Michaud Creek Road but did not cause any evacuations.

The Fort Hall, North Bannock and Power County fire departments responded to the blaze.

The fire remains under investigation by tribal authorities.
