POCATELLO - Breathing heavily and speaking through tears, Brian Draper told police how Torey Adamcik allegedly moved through the pitch-black home, approached teenager Cassie Jo Stoddart and stabbed her to death.

The scene from Draper's Sept. 27 interrogation - titled "The Confession" By Bannock County Sheriff's detectives - was played for jurors Thursday during the defendant's murder trial.

During the video, Draper admitted he and Adamcik were there when Stoddart was murdered, but denied ever stabbing her. Later, jurors saw a video of a Sept. 28 interrogation in which Draper confessed to stabbing Stoddart four or five times.

Draper, his parents and law enforcement officers were huddled in a small interview room at the Bannock County Sheriff's Office during the Sept. 27 interrogation. It was then that Draper, who previously offered officers two different alibis, admitted he and Adamcik were involved in Stoddart's murder.

Through tears, Draper told a story of how he believed they were playing a prank right up until the moment he realized Stoddart had been killed. Draper then told officers Adamcik said he would be in equal trouble if he said anything.

During the interrogation, Draper said he told Adamcik he wanted to tell officers the truth about what happened, to which he alleges Adamcik said he would kill Draper.

Draper described to police the clothing, masks and knives they pulled from Adamcik's car prior to entering the residence in northeast Bannock County where Stoddart was house-sitting. He also told them of how he and Adamcik disposed of the items in the Black Rock Canyon area later that night.

The recording of the Sept. 27 interrogation, Draper's third with police, was introduced during the continuing testimony of Bannock County Sheriff's Detective Andy Thomas, who was on the stand when Wednesday's proceedings ended.

At the conclusion of that video, Bannock County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Vic Pearson entered a Sept. 28 interrogation of Draper into evidence.

However, prior to the admission, the jury was excused so a defense attorney motion to suppress the Sept. 28 interview could be argued.

Sixth District Judge Peter D. McDermott, who is presiding over the trial, denied the motion and allowed admission of the interrogation.

During the Sept. 28 interrogation, Thomas and Idaho State Police Detective Lt. John Ganske told Draper they believed there was more to the story he told Sept. 27.

"Are you sure you didn't stab (Stoddart)?" Thomas asks Draper in the video. "I know you didn't want to stab her, but does Torey at any time make you stab her?"

About two more minutes of similar questioning passed and Draper finally gasped a faint "yes," admitting he stabbed Stoddart. Draper then told the detectives he stabbed her more then once at the behest of Adamcik.

"(Adamcik) came over and says, 'Make sure she is dead. You need to stab her,'" Draper said during the Sept. 28 interrogation.

After the video was completed, Pearson said he had no further questions of Thomas and Thursday's proceedings were concluded rather than taking up defense attorney's cross examination of the detective, which Martinez said will likely take up most of Friday morning.

Draper and Adamcik were arrested Sept. 27, just three days after Stoddart's body was found. They were both charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Stoddart was stabbed to death Sept. 22 while house-sitting for relatives and was found two days later when they returned home.

Both defendants and Stoddart were 16-year-old juniors at Pocatello High School when the murder occurred. Draper turned 17 last month.
