POCATELLO — Soroptimist of Pocatello is seeking nominations for the Violet Richardson Award of the Soroptimists.

Are you a young woman between the ages of 14 and 17 who volunteers in your community or school? Do you see the challenges instead of obstacles? Hope instead of despair? If you are a young woman who believes in the power of volunteer action, you may be eligible for this award.

The award recognizes young women who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts such as fighting drugs, crime and violence, cleaning up the environment and working to end discrimination and poverty. Volunteer actions benefiting women or girls are particularly encouraged.

Winners can receive cash awards for themselves and the charitable organizations of their choice. Visit www.soroptimist.org for details.

The awards begin at the local club level, where the type of award varies. Club-level winners then become eligible for one of 28 $1,000 awards and $1,000 will be contributed in honor of these winners to their volunteer organization.

To apply or for more information about the Violet Richardson Award program, contact Angie Hernandez, angie_ptauctions@yahoo.com, phone 251-4912, or Sue Miller, millsuzanne@cableone.net, phone 221-6872.

Applications are due by Dec. 1.
