IDAHO FALLS — A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed Thursday in a collision with a pickup truck just south of Idaho Falls, according to Idaho State Police.

Authorities said the adult male motorcyclist died at the scene of the 5:39 p.m. crash at South Yellowstone Highway and South 15th West.

The Bonneville County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Rafael Forseca-Ortiz of Idaho Falls.

He was driving a black 2014 Honda motorcycle northbound in the center turn lane and was merging into the lane of travel when he collided with a white GMC pickup that was traveling southbound and attempting to turn left onto South 15th West, state police said.

The pickup was driven by a 61-year-old Shelley man with a 61-year-old Shelley woman as a passenger. Their names have not been released but neither was reportedly hospitalized following the crash.

Forseca-Ortiz was wearing a helmet and both occupants of the pickup were wearing seat belts, state police said.

The northbound lane of South Yellowstone Highway was closed for approximately three hours following the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
