ARIMO — Police confirmed the identities and causes of death of an Arimo couple found deceased in their basement apartment on Portneuf Avenue on Monday.

    Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen said Tuesday that it was 28-year-old Lisa England, an Arimo native, and her husband, Juan Cantal’ Cio-Y Enoc, 49, originally from Peru.

    Juan was a Peruvian citizen with legal U.S. residency, and Nielsen said efforts to reach his family in Peru kept him from releasing the names prior to Tuesday afternoon.

    “We did contact the Peruvian Consulate and also a relative we believe is in Sun Valley and in Montpelier. So, we feel comfortable in releasing that name.”

    Nielsen also said that Bannock County Coroner Kim Quick confirmed through an initial examination Tuesday morning that both Juan and Lisa died from gunshot wounds.

    “Both were shot in a fatal manner with a handgun,” Nielsen said. “We have retrieved the handgun.”

    Also in the home at the time of the incident, Nielsen said, was England’s 3-year-old daughter, Cassidee England, who the sheriff said was unharmed.

    “When we entered the home, the child was in the home but the child was not in the crime scene,” he said.

7:30 a.m. and found both bodies at the scene. Several Arimo residents who were at the Top It Off convenience store Monday afternoon and asked not to be identified, said they knew the couple and called their relationship one that was “on-again-off-again.” They also agreed the couple had been married for about a year.

    While rumors swirling around the small rural community on Monday were dubbing the incident a murder-suicide, Nielsen said he was not ready to call it such, saying only that there was evidence consistent with a murder-suicide but that he would not confirm that was the case until the investigation was complete.

    He reiterated that position on Tuesday.

    “We want to rule anything else out before we call this a murder-suicide,” he said. “We do not believe at this time that we have other people involved. We haven’t ruled that out.”

    Nielsen said all the evidence collected at the scene must be analyzed before the presence of additional parties can be ruled out with certainty.

    Some of that evidence includes interviews regarding the relationship between the couple and their behavior, looking into the background to determine if other factors may have played a role in Monday’s incident. It will be at least a few days before anything certain is determined.

    “I am not (expecting) any breakthroughs on this until early next week,” Nielsen said.

    While little information is known yet about Juan, details about Lisa’s life are coming to light. She was a lifelong resident of Arimo who graduated from Marsh Valley High School in 2002, according to an obituary appearing in today’s Journal. While at Marsh Valley, she played volleyball and basketball, but was most passionate about softball.

    She worked for Deseret Industries and at the time of her death was pursuing her CNA. She recently received her CPR and Med certification.

    Lisa enjoyed camping, boating, snowmobiling and spending time with family, whether just visiting or playing a game.

    Funeral services are scheduled for noon on Friday at the Arimo Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home at 570 N. Meadowview Drive and again from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. on Friday at the church.

    The family is also asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to an account at U.S. Bank that has been set up in the name of Mike Haney to help provide for Lisa’s daughter Cassidee.
