Pocatello Democrats will be in Charlotte, N.C., Tuesday when the National Democratic Convention gets under way.

    They are retiring state legislators Edgar Malapeai and Diane Bilyeu, and delegates Jim Fletcher and Sean Fay.

    They will be joining other Idaho Democrats who are attending the convention at the Time Warner Cable arena. Tuesday evening will feature speeches by first lady Michelle Obama and keynote speaker, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro.

    The convention will finish with President Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech scheduled to be delivered at the outdoor Bank of America Stadium on Thursday.

    The president will be nominated for a new term on Wednesday, when former President Bill Clinton also will speak. Vice President Joe Biden also will deliver his acceptance speech on Wednesday.

    The list of speakers for the Democratic National Convention includes 12 women: U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin; Former assistant secretary, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Tammy Duckworth; Sandra Fluke, Georgetown University student; Denise Juneau, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Montana; Nancy Keenan, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America; Caroline Kennedy; Lilly Ledbetter;  actress Eva Longoria;  U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, Md.; Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund; California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris; and Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.
