MONTPELIER — Multiple streets were shut down and residents were ordered to shelter in place Friday as a specialized SWAT team deployed an armored vehicle to execute a high-risk search warrant in Montpelier that resulted in one arrest.

The Montpelier Police Department called in the Southeastern Idaho STAR Team, a regional tactical unit composed of specially trained SWAT officers, for the Friday night operation within city limits, according to a press release from Montpelier Police Chief Blake Wells.

Authorities arrested an adult male during the incident. He is currently being held at the Caribou County Jail in Soda Springs. Police have not released his name or the charges he faces.

The dramatic scene unfolded as the tactical team's armored vehicle rolled through Montpelier streets while nearby residents were told to shelter in place for their own safety, authorities said. Multiple city streets were temporarily closed to traffic during the high-risk operation.

Police have not disclosed the address where the search warrant was executed, citing the ongoing investigation.

The nature of the investigation and potential safety risks prompted authorities to bring in the tactical team's expertise and specialized equipment to ensure safe execution of the operation, police said.

Multiple agencies converged on the scene to support the operation. The Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office, Bear Lake County Ambulance, Montpelier City Fire Department and Idaho State Fire Marshal's Office all contributed personnel and resources to the coordinated effort.

The operation concluded without any injuries or shots fired, authorities said.

The multi-agency response underscored the collaborative approach law enforcement takes when conducting potentially dangerous operations.

"This collaborative effort underscores the value of interagency partnerships in safeguarding the public and ensuring that law enforcement operations are conducted as safely and effectively as possible," Wells' press release stated.

The case remains under active investigation. Police said additional information about the investigation and search warrant will be released as it becomes available.

Chief Wells thanked the STAR Team and all supporting agencies for their assistance and professionalism during the operation.
