POCATELLO — A Pocatello police standoff with a violent fugitive out of Montana ended early Thursday morning when a police dog bit him, authorities say.

Vincent W. Knight, who had a nationwide extradition warrant out of Montana, was arrested around 5:20 a.m. Thursday following the standoff, Pocatello police said in a new release.

The incident began to unfold after Pocatello police dispatch received a tip of a violent offender wanted person at a residence on South Third Avenue.

Missoula Police have been searching for Knight since Oct. 30, 2023 after he walked away from the Missoula pre-release center while awaiting a hearing, police said.

When he ran away, Knight was ordered to serve 33 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated assault, felony assault, assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment, according to the news release.

“After being given consensual permission to enter the home, officers made an action plan to enter the residence and apprehend (Knight) safely,” Pocatello police said. “Knight was not cooperative and chose to hide in the attic of the residence from officers.”

When Knight was confronted, he was still uncooperative resulting in K9 Bruce, a dual-purpose narcotics and apprehension trained Belgian Malinois, being utilized, said police, adding that Bruce did his job and bit Knight, which assisted officers with placing Knight in custody.

Knight was first transported to the hospital for medical clearance prior to being incarcerated at the Bannock County Jail for being a Fugitive From Justice along with his outstanding warrant.

No other injuries occurred during this investigation and all of the occupants of the triplex home returned to their residences as they were evacuated for their safety during the investigation, police said.
