Idaho State senior Christian Brininger had a season-best weight throw of 60’1.75” to finish third at the Montana State Duals on Friday in Bozeman, Montana. Brininger’s mark also moved him to third in the conference rankings.

MEN

“He’s sitting third in the conference and two feet off second, that’s a good position to be in,” Bengals coach Hillary Merkley said. “He’s throwing well at a good time.”

Junior Trevor Jensen and sophomore Leo Finsterbusch placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the weight throw for the Bengals.

Sophomore Tanner Conner continued his winning streak with his fifth consecutive victory in the 60-meter hurdles. Conner finished with a time of 8.21 seconds. Conner also won the long jump with a leap of 22’4.5”.

WOMEN

Freshman Alyssa Gorrell took first in the shot put with a throw of 41’6”. In the weight throw, sophomore Madison Cicierski finished first with a throw of 54’10.75”. Junior Taylor Clark and sophomore Kylie Greenwell finished third and fourth, respectively, in the weight throw.

In the triple jump, freshman Briana VanVleet had a personal-best jump of 37’3.75” to finish in third, while fellow freshman Louisa Stroppel had a personal-best mark of 36’11.5” to come in fifth.

Another top finisher for the Bengals was freshman Jessica Swannack, who had a personal-best jump of 12’4” to finish third. This also moves her into a tie for sixth in the conference. On the track, freshman Molly Olsen finished third with a time of 5:05.82.

Big Sky Championships

The Bengals won’t compete next week as they prepare for the 2018 Big Sky Indoor Championships presented by Red Lion Hotels Corporation on Feb. 22-24 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
